Rotary Youth Exchange application guide
Rotary exchanges are community-driven. Local clubs sponsor students, host orientations, and expect ambassadors who represent their district with integrity. Use this guide alongside official Rotary materials and IQ Abroad practice tracks.
Working with your Rotary club
Contact your district Rotary Youth Exchange chair early. Attend information nights, volunteer at club events, and understand financial responsibilities.
Club members may interview you multiple times. Treat every meeting as part of the evaluation - not only the formal panel.
Ambassador essays
Rotary essays often highlight service, honesty, and cross-cultural respect. Describe volunteer work with measurable impact: hours, people helped, or problems solved.
Connect service to personal growth. How did tutoring, environmental projects, or peer mediation change your perspective?
Practice in the Rotary essay library on IQ Abroad and study the sample essay anatomy guide for structure.
Behavior and expectations
Rotary emphasizes rules about alcohol, driving, and social media during the exchange year. Show that you understand consequences and ask coordinators when unsure.
Dress neatly for interviews and arrive prepared with questions about orientations and host family matching.
Staying ready after acceptance
Keep practicing English and writing thank-you notes to club sponsors. Help future applicants in IQ Abroad Communities - it reinforces your own skills.
